Take a step back in time as you explore over 400 years of indigenous history, culture, and survival in The Schiele’s historic Catawba Village. 

Tour a prehistoric-style bark house, town house, and historic 18th and 19th-century cabins in the Catawba Indian Village on the Nature Trail*.

Get to know the Catawba Indians that lived in the area where the museum sits today. Learn how these resilient Indigenous people hunted and gathered food, built homes, and survived in the Piedmont. View artifacts and try your hand at completing some of their daily chores.
