2023 Summer Camps for Rising 1st & 2nd Graders

Summer camp at The Schiele Museum is an exciting opportunity to explore science and the natural world. Campers can look forward to hands-on activities and a variety of learning experiences within the museum, outdoors on the Nature Trail, and on carefully selected trips in the local community.

Camp 101: May 30 - June 2

Power Up!

**Full – no longer accepting applications.

If you lived in Super Mario World, you could use stars or mushrooms to power up. Here on Earth, you’ll need electric, solar, thermal, wind, water, or combustion power instead! Explore real-life power-ups with lots of science experiments and activities.

Camp 102: June 5 - 9

Bees, Buds, & Birds

Where do fruits and vegetables come from? How do they grow? Learn all about pollinators and their delicious work. You’ll visit parks and nature trails to find flowering plants, and even taste a variety of fruits!

Camp 103: June 12 - 16

Spontaneous Science

What will happen next? The museum’s unpredictable genius goes on a physics frenzy that will enlighten, inspire, and entertain with fantastic experiments and bizarre demonstrations.

Camp 104: June 19 - 23

Culinary Creations

**Full – no longer accepting applications.

How does yeast work? What does it take to make a pickle? Get hands-on in the kitchen to explore the science behind food, create your own signature dishes, and then enjoy eating your own culinary masterpieces.

Camp 105: June 26 - 30

Wild About Wildlife*

**Full – no longer accepting applications.

Get up close and personal with live animals, explore nearby habitats, and investigate North Carolina native wildlife. Search forests, fields and creeks to find out how animals survive in different places and discover what makes local animals so unique.

*Campers should be prepared to be outside, get dirty, and be near live animals.

Storybook Summer

Get lost in a world of stories!  From fairy tales to talking animals and everything in between, read fantastic stories and use them as inspiration to create your own.

Camp 107: July 10 - 14

Movie Mania

Lights, camera, action! Learn how movies are made by exploring what happens behind the scenes of some of your favorite films. Become a director as you make your own mini movie!

Camp 108: July 17 - 21

Gardening Gurus

Ready to get your hands dirty? Grow your gardening skills and cultivate fascinating science experiments using soil, sun, and the power of nature!

Camp 109: July 24 - 28

Pirates and Mermaids

Dive into pirate ship games, mermaid crafts, and ocean-themed facts when you explore the myths and folklore surrounding pirates and mermaids. Visit the coral reefs through the lens of the planetarium and investigate local tales to find out if pirates and mermaids…are real?

Camp 110: July 31 - August 4

Monster Quest

A strange creature has been lurking on the Nature Trail, leaving mysterious evidence behind. You will have to use your skills as a detective and a scientist to find this monster, all while studying the wildlife of real-life monsters!

Camp 111: August 7 - 11

Blast From the Past

Dig into the amazing history of life on Earth by examining fossils, creating prehistoric art, and interacting with living fossils. Explore each of Earth’s eras and learn more about extinct animals and their ecosystems.

Camp 112: August 14 - 17

Pokemon Gym

**Full – no longer accepting applications.

Want to “catch ‘em all”? Create your own Pokemon character and join other trainers in the Pokemon Gym. Learn what it takes to care for Pokemon and where their real-life counterparts come from.

Registration Instructions

Step 1: Choose the camps you would like to attend.

Step 2: Submit your registration request form. 

Step 3: Registration forms will be emailed to you. Complete and return them promptly to secure your spot. 

Payment in full for all camps is due at the time of registration.
No refunds are available for Summer Day Camps.
Camp registration deadline is one week prior to the start of the program unless otherwise listed.
