INTO THE WOODS

Selected K-12 teachers participate FREE.

K-12 teachers, use the works of Henry David Thoreau as a multidisciplinary foundation for implementing active and engaging place-based learning grounded in the humanities. This Institute will focus on building appreciation for the natural world and promoting stewardship of nature.

  • Explore Thoreau’s experiential nature-based educational philosophy.
  • Investigate local learning resources, including the Catawba Riverkeepers and The Schiele Museum.
  • Build collaborative community connections.
  • Participate in meaningful and fun excursions – hiking, kayaking, and more – designed to help you inspire and empower your students.*

This Institute is appropriate for all grade levels and subject areas. Participants will earn 30 contact hours (3.0 CEUs).

Space is limited. Selected teachers must be able to attend all sessions.
