Baby is a Southern Flying Squirrel, commonly found in North Carolina’s high-elevation areas, Tennessee and Southwest Virginia. His loose skin cape stretches from his wrists to his ankles. Baby is roughly 13 years old and his diet consists of fruits, seeds and insects. To provide enrichment for Baby, the animal care staff will hide nuts in different nooks and crannies of his enclosure for Baby to discover!
It is unknown when Baby arrived at the museum. He was habituated from travelling in New Orleans with his previous owner. They found Baby when a tree was cut down and discovered him inside. Baby was donated and deemed non-releasable after his owner’s health declined and was no longer able to care for him.
You can find Baby in on-site educational programs.
