The Schiele Museum is open!
As of March 2022
In accordance with the guidance of North Carolina and guidlines from the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), The Schiele Museum encourages the use of masks while in the facility. It is suggested that in small group settings or in situations where social distancing is not possible that you consider wearing a mask. Masks will still be available at the Guest Services Desk for guests and that wish to wear a mask and do not have one.

The Schiele Museum will follow the recommendations and guidelines from the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), state and local officials regarding masking. The Schiele Museum will continue to require our guests and visitors to wear masks because we provide services to children, including organized groups like schools and camps. Face coverings/masks must be worn (covering the nose and mouth) while visiting the museum regardless of vaccination status.
As of May 2021
On May 14, Governor Cooper lifted some restrictions under Executive Order 215 for North Carolina. Per the Executive Order, there are places which still require a mask (covering the nose and mouth). The Schiele Museum will continue to require our guest and visitors to wear masks because we provide services to children, including organized groups like schools and camps. The museum also provides our own children’s classes, programs, and summer camps making it necessary to wear masks under this Executive Order. In following recommendations from the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and as stated in the revised order, face coverings /masks are recommended for those who are not vaccinated and for all people in large venues.
As of April 2021
On April 28, 2021 Governor Cooper announced an update to the Executive Order to take effect on Friday, April 30, 2021 in which masks are no longer required outdoors when social distancing can be maintained. Masks are encouraged outdoors when you cannot socially distance. Masks covering the nose and mouth are still required indoors. The Schiele will continue to follow the guidelines as recommendend by the CDC, will adhere to the NC Executive Orders, in addition to the policies of the City of Gastonia.
As of March 2021
On March 23, 2021, Governor Cooper announced that North Carolina museums could reopen at 100% capacity beginnning March 26th! Covid prevention measures will remain in place and include wearing a mask that covers the nose and mouth along with maintaining social distance from others (not within your immediate household) by at least 6′. Continued sanitation of the facility will remain in place.

Reopening Policies and Procedure
The Schiele has established a museum reopening plan to detail how we will work to keep the public and our staff safe in our reopening process. Visitors will be required to wear a mask covering their nose and mouth while utilizing the indoor areas of the museum including exhibits, planetarium and while in programs as well as maintain appropriate social distancing.
