Construction at The Schiele

The Schiele is undergoing some construction this summer. Here’s what to consider while you’re planning your next trip to the museum.

Hall of NC Natural History under construction
  • Construction will begin on the visitor parking lot in June. Once it’s complete, we’ll have a wider entrance and better pedestrian access. (Are you as excited as we are?)
During construction, the main parking lot entrance on Garrison Drive will be closed. Groups and visitors will enter the museum’s lot from a temporary entrance on Burtonwood Drive (east of Grier Middle School). Planning a visit in early summer? Check in before you head out! Updates will be posted on our website.
  • The Hall of North Carolina Natural History is getting an update! Mark your calendar for the opening of the new snake habitat during Reptile and Amphibian Day on May 18, 2024. You may experience intermittent closures of this space during your visit in April or May.
  • We have made some changes to The Hall of North American Wildlife in preparation for the new Hall of Dinosaurs, slated to open soon. Get the details.
  • The James H. Lynn Planetarium is getting an out-of-this-world update! Starting May 13, shows will be canceled while chairs, flooring, and lights are replaced. Get ready to blast off in comfort when the planetarium re-opens in mid-June. Check our events calendar for updates to the planetarium show schedule.

Thank you for your patience. For regular updates, bookmark this page or follow The Schiele on social media.
