These small group lessons teach science through hands-on/minds-on activities and guided explorations. Sessions include opportunities for students to learn through scientific inquiry, examination, experimentation, and analysis. Maximum group size is one class of 25 students. Most classes last 50 minutes.
Gems & Minerals: Students use identification and sorting techniques to find, examine, and classify minerals. Treasure-seekers will use a running water sluice to find gemstones to keep. Best suited for grades: K, 1, 4, and 8.
Matter & Energy Lab: Conduct experiments and analyze demonstrations to learn about properties of matter and how they are effected by different forms of energy. Best suited for grades: 2, 3, and 7.
Animal Dissection: Examine internal structures, identify organs, and study their function. Choice of specimens: frog or squid. Best suited for grades: 5 and 7.
Soil & Water: Experiment with soils to discover their basic properties and components and why some soils are better for growing plants than others. Best suited for grades: 1 and 6.
Star Lab: Explore the Sun, Moon, planets, familiar constellations and interesting stars in our portable planetarium. Best suited for grades: 3 and 6.
