Block Party!

Opening Saturday, May 4th

Young architects can enjoy more than 1,000 soft and safe building blocks and connectors (in all sorts of shapes and sizes) designed to inspire creativity and encourage children to bring their imaginations to life. This hands-on STEAM exhibit is brought to you by PNC.

Schedule your next playdate at The Schiele! From 9 - 11AM on Saturday’s (May through September), you can reserve the Block Party exhibit exclusively for your friends! Designed specifically for kids to have fun, Block Party is perfect for group celebrations and birthday parties!

The museum is closed on Easter, Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.

Free parking is conveniently located near the entrance to the museum. 

Accessibility

The Schiele Museum welcomes all visitors and strives to make its exhibitions, programs and services accessible to everyone.
All of the museum's indoor exhibits are accessible by wheelchair, and all public floors of the museum can be reached by using an accessibility ramp.

The James H. Lynn Planetarium includes wheelchair locations and companion seats.

All restroom locations are accessible to those in wheelchairs or with mobility impairments. Wheelchairs are available for visitors on a first-come, first-served basis at the admissions desk. Due to inclines and gravel footing of the nature trail, all areas may not be accessible by those with mobility impairments.

How long does a visit take?

With about 60,000 square feet inside the museum and nature trail that's nearly three-quarters of a mile long, there's so much to see and do! We have made general estimates for visitation time, but these can vary greatly based on age and interest level.

Most Programs: 45 minutes

Bug Day

Bug Day

Saturday, May 18th from 10 AM – 4 PM

Get an up-close look into the wild world of insects, spiders, and other arthropods! Learn about bugs from entomologists, enjoy themed crafts and games, and meet a “Bug Whisperer” at the Creepy Crawly Zoo. Plus, don’t miss the fifth annual bug eating contests for participants 18 years of age and older! Are you brave enough to eat a bug?

SEASONAL CAMP AND EDUCATION POSITIONS

SCHIELE MUSEUM OF NATURAL HISTORY

Gastonia, NC

Seasonal staff needed for summer children’s camps and public programs.  Typical responsibilities include providing supervision for children, leading activities, making educational presentations, participating in museum events, assisting visitors, monitoring exhibit areas, site upkeep, and recording data.  Work will be conducted from June 11 through August 24.  Candidate must possess a valid driver’s license and good driving record. Previous experience working with children preferred.
