Bud 'N' Naturalists: Discovery Activities for Young Children
Monday 9:30 - 11:30 AM, Saturday 10 AM - 4 PM, Sunday 1 - 4 PM. Entry included in museum admission.
Type: Public Program
Budding naturalists are invited to explore nature and history in the Bobcats Den. Kid-friendly activities and special programs are designed to promote experiential learning. Puzzles, live animals, games, discovery nooks and more await young children in this very special place to learn. Bud ’N’ Naturalists is made possible by a generous grant from the Lyon Foundation.
Composite Bone Harpoons
March 20, 9 AM - 4 PM
Type: Adult Workshop
Examine the variety of fish spear evidence from prehistoric and early historic times. We will explore the archaeologically "invisible" components of composite bone harpoons, and then manufacture two different models. Backwoods Amusements
March 21, 9 AM - 4 PM
Type: Adult Workshop
Pop, flip, flop and fling your way through a variety of jack-crafted toys and amusements from both Native American and European traditions. Participants will make a series of rough-tech toys including shingle darts, rivercane spring guns, pea shooters, and a variety of other semi-dangerous country contraptions. Ukrainian Pysanky Egg Workshop
Friday, March 26, 5 – 9 PM

Get ready for Easter by learning this unique and traditional art form. “Pysanky” eggs (pronounced “pah-sah-kah”) make wonderful gifts for family and friends, and are beautiful enough to display year-round. Camp In events provide a unique opportunity to experience programs and exhibits at the Schiele in a fun indoor camping adventure. Save the Frogs
Saturday March 6, 2 PM

Frogs around the world are disappearing and are in danger of extinction. In the last 30 years, 200 species of amphibians have completely disappeared. You can help ‘Save the Frogs.’ Learn all about the myths and facts of frogs and toads in your area. Learn frog calls and how to identify native frog and toad species.
Dye, Scratch and Pick: Easter Customs in the Backcountry
Sunday, March 28, 1 – 5 PM
Type: Public Program
Celebrate the coming of spring with backcountry settlers! Discover the wholesome beauty and gentle colors of eggs dyed with natural materials. Try your hand at “egg picking!” or decorate your own egg with 18th century designs scratched with a pin. Search for the hidden nest of the “Ostr Hase” (Easter Hare) to learn if the children have been good or bad this year.
