Diabetes seminar set

A diabetes expert from Caromont Health will discuss Type I and Type II diabetes at a free seminar Tuesday, May 13. Free blood glucose screenings begin at 5:45 p.m. in the Stowe Gallery. Fasting is not required. At 6:45 p.m., Lisa Clement-Bryant, program coordinator of diabetes services at the Caromont Diabetes Center, will discuss diabetes from a clinical prospective, while Schiele Collections Manager Carrie Duran provides personal insight into the disease. Carrie’s 6-year-old daughter was diagnosed with Juvenile diabetes two years ago.

Gardening in the backcountry

Visit the Backcountry garden from 1 to 5 p.m., Sunday, May 25, to learn about tansey, fever few, teasel, thyme and other interesting herbs, flowers and vegetables grown in early Carolina gardens. Watch costumed interpreters go about their work preparing beds, planting herbs and weaving the garden fence. Take home a sprig of rosemary for remembrance of your visit! Entry is included with museum admission.
